Amanda's Book Due Out April 30, 2013

Who Is Amanda Knox

Amanda Marie Knox was born on July 9, 1987 to Edda and Curt Knox. Her parents divorced when she was very young and both parents have remarried. Amanda attended a Catholic school in Seattle, WA and later attended the University of Washington.
From an early age Amanda was attracted to sports and was an avid soccer player and rock climber. She excelled in both high school and at the University of Washington in her studies and was an honor student. In 2007 she went to Italy to study languages in Perugia and worked several jobs to pay her way to Italy- which for her was a dream come true. Once in Perugia she found a place to live, sharing a flat with a British student (Meredith) and two young Italian women. On November 1, 2007, the British student, Meredith, was found murdered in the flat the women shared together. Shortly thereafter, Amanda was charged with her room-mate's murder and after a trial of 11 months was found guilty of murder by and Italian jury, and sentenced to a total of 26 years in prison. She is an inmate of Capanne prison just outside the city of Perugia. Her appeal is scheduled for November 2010, in which her defense team hopes to overturn her murder conviction.

Those are the dry facts- which do not say much about Amanda Knox the person. There has been a lot of speculation and some downright misinformation regarding Amanda over the last three years. Several books about her and the case have been published and literally hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles have been printed- much of which is not worthy of a read. So really, who is Amanda Knox?

I think the best source of information on Amanda is from those who know her. And her friends do not turn away from her. More than a few of her friends have publicly spoken up on Amanda's behalf and as if in one voice all say- This is not Amanda. The keywords one hears over and over regarding Amanda are: Empathetic, helpful, good friend, inspirational, pacifist, goofy, intelligent, responsible, trusting, etc... These are hardly the words one would pick to describe a murderer. I do not know her, yet I know a lot about her, and the way I see it, I would add one more word in with the rest to describe who she is- courageous.

Some facts about Amanda
She loves the Beatles
She loves to sing- and particularly- "Let It Be" by the Beatles

She loves to read short stories and novels

She loves soccer and watched the world cup in Capanne prison
She dearly loves all her family and her friends
She loves Italy and the Italian people
She packed her mountain climbing gear when she went to Italy- left clothes behind to make room
Thinks she is of average looks and is surprised that some people think she is 'foxy'
Attends Mass every Sunday even though she is not Catholic but certainly spiritual
Reads her mail and practices yoga every day
Helps the other female inmates learn English
Still studies for her college degree through U. of Washington through the mail
And- she would love for this nightmare to end and go home- Let It Be.............

Many murderers put the dog in a closed room while killing the "loved one". Love of animals means nothing by itself. Many people would kill their own mother if she harmed their dog. The love of people is what God is concerned with. He doesn't approve of cruelty to animals, either, but they have no spirit. They have a mind and a body and a "soul", as they feel emotions and attachment and can grieve for an absent master. They have no spirit, they are far inferior to man. Only the lowest type man prefers a beast's welfare to a human's welfare, as he has lowered himself to this level, let them be his companions. He'll be lonely as Adam within a year.

Ahhh- are you on the right forum?

If Amanda is so "empathetic, trusting, responsible," why did she say Meredith's death was "blrrrgggh...yucky!" in open court? fine feelings for a friend.

Saint_Michael1,

I'm sorry I was trying to express the idea that although Amanda Knox may be a dog lover and would throw fish back after catching them, it does not mean she couldn't have committed the crime of murder. I have often been shocked at how many murderers will drive the silly dog out into the woods to let it go free and spare its life while killing children and family members. Disordered personalities with very base feelings, who want to be considered "goodnatured" because they like animals!??? they are no better than dogs themselves.

Amanda is so beautiful.

Yeah it was kind of a goofy, girlish thing to say, particularly at the age of 20. But I don't think that makes her guilty of murder- I think she just wasn't thinking before she spoke on how that sounds. It's forgivable I think.

Yeah I was kind of wondering on the dog thing there. Well Amanda does have a dog and she does love animals but she is also very much a people person. I have heard a lot of stories about how kind hearted she is to other people. Most people, except those who know her, don't seem to realize how sensitive Amanda is. She can be kind of crass and silly sometimes but she will be the first one to help you out. She has a lot of friends who can testify to that. Thanks for posting.

“The cartwheels? This is Amanda just being Amanda. As her friends would say, it’s an Amanda thing.” (Edda Mellas, commenting on Knox turning cartwheels at the police station. The Guardian, UK, June 27. 2009)
I think if Amanda's mother thinks that is appropriate behaviour then perhaps this sad situation was a tragedy waiting to happen.

It wasn't actually a cartwheel- it was a yoga stretching exercise to relax.

Why are you trying to help a killer?

Saint_Michael1 said...

I'm not trying to help a killer. The killer is Rudy Guede and he's convicted and in prison.
